Re: Special Session CBA Tentative Agreement Board Meeting

The Covington Community School Corporation School Board hosted a special session meeting on Tuesday, October 26, 2021, in order to review aspects of a tentative agreement reached with the Covington Classroom Teachers Association for the 2021 – 2022 Collective Bargaining Agreement.

If ratified by the parties, the agreement would provide a $3,500 salary increase for all full – time classroom instructors. In addition, a $1,500 stipend would be awarded for the full – time teachers at the end of the school year.

“For the past four years the school board has made it a priority to enhance instructor wages and benefits,” CCSC superintendent Kevin Smith said. “This year’s planned salary increases would continue to expand the boards commitment to invest in our most valued resources – our classroom teachers.”

With the ratification of the CBA a new salary schedule would be implemented, increasing a starting teacher’s pay from $36,750 to $40,250, a 9.52% increase. The new salary schedule would provide a range of pay from $40,250 – $62,250 for classroom instructors with a bachelors degree and $42,000 – $69,000 for those holding a masters degree.

The tentative agreement also calls for:

• The school corporation to provide an additional contribution for health insurance members.

• The addition of three roles to the extra – curricular roster –
o Swimming Coach
o Elementary School Christmas Program Sponsor
o Elementary School Art Program Sponsor

There were no public comments offered during the tentative agreement meeting.

The board will consider ratification of the CBA during their November 8, 2021 meeting.

During the session the board also received information on proposed updates to building level handbooks, received under the first reading provision.
