INFO: Virtual Learning Days – October 11 & 12
( – Official Document)
Hello Trojans!
I know many of you have been awaiting information regarding our Virtual Learning days in October prior to Fall Break. I am excited to share with you plans we feel will be beneficial to the learning environment for our students. Below in this document are the details that will pertain to all students in the district in regards to the schedule for our Virtual Instruction days that will take place on October 11th and 12th. Due to changes in state requirements, we have had to adjust the way in which we provide virtual instruction.
Covington Elementary School
Our Elementary Trojans will be participating in Virtual Learning Days with the assistance of their teachers. The Covington Elementary teachers and students will connect through Google -Meet each day. The school day will begin at 8:00 am. Students should be signed in and ready to interact with teachers at this time. Each day, virtual instruction will end at 10:30 am, but teachers will still be available to respond to questions from their students during the afternoon hours. Attendance will be taken both of these days to track student participation. Students that have no access to the internet will need to contact their child’s teacher by the end of the day on Thursday Oct. 6th to make arrangements for the following week.
Covington Middle & High School
Students of the middle and high schools will follow a bell schedule, much like they would do on a daily basis. Teachers will create Google or Zoom meetings for each period each day based upon the clock schedule below.
Period 1 > 8:00-8:20
Period 2 > 8:23-8:43
Period 3 > 8:46-9:06
Period 4 > 9:09-9:29
Period 5 > 9:32-9:52
Period 6 > 9:55-10:15
Period 7 > 10:18-10:38
Period 8 > 10:40-11:00
Students will interact with teachers, receive instruction, and complete assignments each day during these class periods. Teachers will also be available via email on Tuesday, Oct. 11th from 12:00 –3:00 and on Thursday, October 12th from 11:00 – 12:30, to answer questions that students may have on assignments. Attendance will be taken each day to track student participation. All work is due no later than Monday, October 17 by 8:00 a.m. unless a teacher sets a different due date requiring a longer work time. Students not completing an assignment by October 18 or by the teacher set due date for certain classes will receive a 0 on the assignment.

Covington Community Schools hopes this change in instructional delivery during these two days provides what we believe is one of the highest qualities of education in Indiana. Rather than simply providing every student with homework packets, we feel that providing direct interaction and instruction is the best means by which to deliver virtual instruction. Should you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s respective school.
Thank you
