    Covington High School Announcements

    Today

    Any student who dressed up today for Spirit Week and wants to participate in the Best Dressed Awards should report to the Varsity Gym during Homeroom.

    There will be a Pep Session on Friday, January 24 at 2:35 in the Varsity Gym. We will be operating
    on a Wednesday schedule on Friday due to the Pep Session.

    Anyone that is wanting to have Pizza before the home basketball game this Friday, January 24,
    Please stop by the office sometime today or tomorrow to sign up and choose what Overpass Pizza
    you will want. This Pizza will be available to all students in the cafeteria at 6:00 pm

    Any student who has signed up for the SAT School Day on Wednesday, March 4th – payment is due to Mrs. Linville by Wednesday, January 29th.

    Scheduling forms for next year are due to the Guidance Office by the end of the day Friday, January 24.

    There will be a girls tennis call out in Mrs. Cotten’s room next Wednesday, January 29th.

    There will be an FCA 5th Quarter after the basketball game on Friday night until 10:30 in the MPR.

    This Friday during Homeroom there will be a Homecoming walk through and all candidates and attendants are required to attend.

    Measuring for Honor Jackets will be today at the beginning of homeroom. Please come to down the HS conference room to be measured.

    WINTER HOMECOMING

    Homecoming is Saturday, January 25th. There will be a semi-formal dance after the game until 11:30 in the MPR. The theme for the dance is The Roaring 20s. Cost is $7, but if you bring two nonperishable items to donate to the food pantry, the cost is $5. Also, if you bring in items to donate, you will be entered in to win a $25 gift card.

    There will be a Pep Session on Friday, January 24 at 2:35 in the Varsity Gym.

    This Friday during Homeroom there will be a Homecoming walk through and all candidates and attendants are required to attend.

    Anyone wishing to bring someone from another school to the dance HAS to have the paper faxed or turned into the office by Friday, January 24th. No one from another school will be allowed in without a paper turned in by the 24th. Forms are available in the high school office.

    This homecoming season, the cheerleaders are sponsoring a locker decorating contest! Students can decorate their lockers to boost homecoming spirit and possibly win some money! Decorating can begin on Monday, and lockers will be judged Thursday evening. One winner from each grade will be chosen to win a $20 gift card.
    Student clubs, organizations, sport teams, and grades can decorate a hallway/area of the school for a prize, too! Please sign-up in the office to claim your group’s space. Decorating can begin on Monday, and the displays will be judged Friday. The winner will be announced during halftime of the Homecoming Varsity basketball game on Saturday. All contests are completely voluntary

    This Month

    Doug’s Studio will be here the morning of Thursday, February 6th to take senior portraits for the yearbook. Seniors remember that you should dress appropriately for the picture as these are the
    pictures that will be in the yearbook and on the Composite in the hall. Boys should wear a shirt with
    a collar or a shirt and tie. No tshirts.

    Weekend Red Cross Lifeguard class @ Fountain Central HS in Veedersburg, IN, just off I-74 & US-41, is now open for registration (starts Feb. 15). Lifeguarding is a tremendous summer and
    often year round job. Guards find work in local community, school, YMCA, state parks, and college pools. You must be 15 by April 1st 2020, and strong swimmer, able to pass a swimming test. Adults (teachers, coaches) are welcome. Download a registration flier at Crew272.org (follow the Lifeguard links – 2 clicks in) or text the instructor at 765-295-1548 for more information.

    Please remember to check your lunch balance in Harmony. If you are in the minus NO extras or seconds. If your balance is over -$15.00, you will be given an alternate lunch, which includes a PB&J with a vegetable, fruit & milk.

    The date for the Prom is Saturday, April 25 at the Beef House from 7:00 to 11:00 pm.

    Covington High School 2020 yearbooks are now on sale. Cost is $50.00 You may pick up an order form in the high school office or order online at yearbookforever.com. Deadline date to order is March 20, 2020.

    The 2019 Yearbooks have arrived. Graduates may pick them up from Mrs. Gee.
    There several 2019 yearbooks left for purchase. If you would like to purchase
    one the cost is $50.00.

    Guidance:

    The SAT will be offered the morning of Wednesday, March 4th. Any junior or senior interested in taking the test should sign-up in the guidance office. The deadline for signing up and payment is January 29th. The cost is $49.50 (checks payable to Covington High School) – checks should be given to Mrs. Linville. A limited number of fee waivers (cost will still be $8) are available for students who qualify. Students should see Mrs. Myers to request a fee waiver.

    Lunch today is Chicken Fritter with Gravy, Mashed Potatoes, Green Beans, and a Roll.
    Breakfast tomorrow will be Sausage Gravy with a Biscuit.

    8th Grade Parent Night is tonight at 6:30 in the cafeteria.

    There is a tennis call-out meeting today during Target Time (10:30) in the cafeteria for any middle school girl.

    The final payment for the Washington DC trip is due January 24th. The total cost for students is $500 ($300 after deposit) and adults are $650 ($450 after deposit). Remember that we leave Thursday, March 12th at 7 pm and arrive home on Tuesday, March 17th around 6:30 am. Students will be excused from school on Friday, Monday, and Tuesday.

    BACKGROUND CHECKS for parents wanting to go on field trips can be obtained through the school website under the Superintendent’s tab. There is a fee for the process. Background checks are good for 2 years.

    THE WINTER SEASON IS UPON US. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR CHILD IS WEARING A WINTER COAT TO SCHOOL. IF HE/SHE DOES NOT HAVE A WINTER COAT AND IS IN NEED, PLEASE NOTIFY THE OFFICE. IN ADDITION, CHILDREN WEARING SHORTS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO GO OUTSIDE FOR RECESS UNLESS THEY HAVE A PAIR OF PANTS TO PUT OVER THEIR SHORTS.

    CES WILL BE COLLECTING BROKEN OR UNWANTED CRAYONS FOR RECYLING. THANK YOU!
