In keeping with our commitment to provide the “Best of the
Best” leadership for our educational facilities, I am excited to announce Ms.
Alison Karrfalt as the new Principal of Covington High School and Ms. Michelle
Beck as the new Principal of Covington Elementary School. Please join me in congratulating these two
Ms. Karrfalt has served as Covington Elementary School
Principal for 19 years. Prior to joining
the CT family Alison taught at the elementary and middle school levels in the
Southeast Fountain School Corporation for six years.
Under her leadership CES has earned an ‘A’ grade under the
Indiana School Accountability system for six consecutive years. Further, during Ms. Karrfalt’s time at the
helm of our elementary school, a number of programs, aimed at serving our
children, were launched. This includes
full day kindergarten, preschool and Response – To – Intervention programming,
all educational “Best Practices”. Her
focus on ensuring data driven decision making, has served our staff and
students very well.
Ms. Karrfalt earned her Bachelors Degree in Elementary
Education from Indiana State University, later earning her Master’s in
Administration from ISU.
Alison and her husband John are the proud parents of three
children, Madison (18), Alan (16), and Brian (13). They reside in Covington.
In order to further clarify the leadership structure, at the
high school, Mr. Trent McCormick is being assigned the new title of Dean of
Students/Athletic Director. In the role
as Dean of Students, Mr. McCormick will assume responsibility for the
attendance, tardy, and student behavior programs.
After receiving her Bachelor’s Degree from Indiana State
University in 2000, Michelle Beck joined the instructional staff of Covington
Elementary School, where she spent the first two years serving as a
kindergarten teacher. She completed a
Masters in Education Administration Degree in 2007, from ISU. For the past 16 years Ms. Beck has instructed
third grade students at CES, while serving in a number of key roles on behalf
of the school and corporation.
During her time with CCSC Ms. Beck has served as a member of
the CES School Improvement Committee and a peer mentor, while being
instrumental in the development of our K – 5 Curriculum Map for Reading
Comprehension. She has served as the
data specialist for the alignment of grade level tier groups in Reading for the
past eight years. This past school year,
Michelle participated in the Covington Community School Corporation Leadership
Development Program and led the launch of the Smekens reading comprehension
program for the elementary school.
Michelle and her husband Jason reside in Covington, with
their two children, Rhyane (11) and Riley (8).
Ms. Karrfalt and Ms. Beck assumed their new roles on July
I am confident the children of Covington will benefit from
the commitment to excellence Ms. Karrfalt, Ms. Beck, and Mr. McCormick will
bring to their new roles. We are all
blessed to have them leading the way and building success for our children.
