With Mr. Haskins recently moving to the role of Covington High School principal, the school board and I have been focused on ensuring the work he has done, as athletic director, to build success, continues.  A priority – of – focus has been to identify a leader who will continue to serve children, staff, and the entire school – community with a laser focus on building excellence – in the classroom and on the court.

With the above in mind, I am pleased, and excited to introduce Mr. Trent McCormick as the new athletic director for Covington Community School Corporation.  Mr. McCormick was hired during the regular monthly meeting of the CCSC Board – of – School – Trustees, on Monday, May 13, 2019.

Mr. McCormick joins the CT family, bringing with him a vast amount of experience as an educator, coach, business, and leadership professional.  These experiences include 13 years as a classroom instructor, serving the students of Yorktown Middle School and High School, as well as Decatur Middle School.  During this time, he has taught eighth grade Science, Environmental Science, and seventh grade Science.  Mr. McCormick has also served on two school safety committee’s during his career.

In the athletic arena, Mr. McCormick is well renowned, after a highly successful 30-year stint as Yorktown Wrestling coach.  During his coaching career, Mr. McCormick recorded 546 wins, leading five student–athletes to IHSAA State Wrestling Championships.  Yorktown captured four Indiana High School Wrestling Coaches Association State Dual Championships during Mr. McCormick’s tenure.

Prior to transitioning into education, Mr. McCormick worked as a Biologist for 16 years with the Muncie Bureau of Water Quality.

Mr. McCormick earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree, in Biology, from Ball State University, in 1991.  He later completed a Transition – To – Teaching curriculum at Indiana State University.

Trent and his wife Jennifer are proud parents of a son, Cael, currently a junior at Army (West Point).

In keeping with our commitment to ensure the needs of every child is met, the board also approved Mr. Travis Brown as Assistant Athletic Director/Middle School Athletic Director.  In this role Mr. Brown will work closely with Mr. McCormick, while continuing to serve as a classroom instructor for Covington Elementary School.

Travis has served the educational needs of our students faithfully, consistently, and with a selfless focus on always doing what is best for the individual child.  He has also worked in a number of extra – curricular roles, including serving as varsity football coach, girls basketball coach, and assistant boys basketball coach.  Mr. Brown will continue as our football and girls varsity basketball coach, while performing his new duties in the athletic department.

Coach Brown, his wife Alison and their children, Colten, and Peyton, are well respected members of the CT family.

I appreciate Mr. Brown’s passion to serve the children of Covington Community School Corporation.

Please join me in congratulating Travis and Trent, while wishing them all the best, as they begin their new athletic duties.
