With Mr. Haskins recently moving to the role of Covington
High School principal, the school board and I have been focused on ensuring the
work he has done, as athletic director, to build success, continues. A priority – of – focus has been to identify
a leader who will continue to serve children, staff, and the entire school –
community with a laser focus on building excellence – in the classroom and on
With the above in mind, I am pleased, and excited to
introduce Mr. Trent McCormick as the new athletic director for Covington
Community School Corporation. Mr.
McCormick was hired during the regular monthly meeting of the CCSC Board – of –
School – Trustees, on Monday, May 13, 2019.
Mr. McCormick joins the CT family, bringing with him a vast
amount of experience as an educator, coach, business, and leadership
professional. These experiences include
13 years as a classroom instructor, serving the students of Yorktown Middle
School and High School, as well as Decatur Middle School. During this time, he has taught eighth grade
Science, Environmental Science, and seventh grade Science. Mr. McCormick has also served on two school
safety committee’s during his career.
In the athletic arena, Mr. McCormick is well renowned, after
a highly successful 30-year stint as Yorktown Wrestling coach. During his coaching career, Mr. McCormick
recorded 546 wins, leading five student–athletes to IHSAA State Wrestling
Championships. Yorktown captured four
Indiana High School Wrestling Coaches Association State Dual Championships
during Mr. McCormick’s tenure.
Prior to transitioning into education, Mr. McCormick worked
as a Biologist for 16 years with the Muncie Bureau of Water Quality.
Mr. McCormick earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree, in
Biology, from Ball State University, in 1991.
He later completed a Transition – To – Teaching curriculum at Indiana
Trent and his wife Jennifer are proud parents of a son, Cael,
currently a junior at Army (West Point).
In keeping with our commitment to ensure the needs of every
child is met, the board also approved Mr. Travis Brown as Assistant Athletic
Director/Middle School Athletic Director.
In this role Mr. Brown will work closely with Mr. McCormick, while
continuing to serve as a classroom instructor for Covington Elementary
Travis has served the educational needs of our students
faithfully, consistently, and with a selfless focus on always doing what is
best for the individual child. He has
also worked in a number of extra – curricular roles, including serving as
varsity football coach, girls basketball coach, and assistant boys basketball
coach. Mr. Brown will continue as our
football and girls varsity basketball coach, while performing his new duties in
the athletic department.
Coach Brown, his wife Alison and their children, Colten, and
Peyton, are well respected members of the CT family.
I appreciate Mr. Brown’s passion to serve the children of
Covington Community School Corporation.
