The Covington Community School Corporation School Board met for their monthly meeting on Monday, March 15, 2021. The meeting was conducted in alignment with social distancing guidelines.
Covington Middle School instructor Brittany Russell provided an overview of the Medical Detectives curriculum implemented during the school year. The Project Lead the Way program is one of three introduced at CMS in the fall of 2020.
Wabash River Career and Technical Cooperative Director Craig Newby introduced the board to the updated state programming – “Next Level Programs of Study”- which be introduced for the class of 2025. The NLPS courses will be available for offering during the 2021- 2022 school year.
During the business portion of the agenda the board:
Approved the construction of new public restrooms at the athletic complex.
Authorized Randy Grubbs, of River Group, to provide an estimate for the renovation of the athletic complex locker rooms.
Approved Gibraltar Design to move forward with design work for the next phase of classroom renovations.
Approved Monday, April 5, 2021 as a make – up day.
Accepted a recommendation from CHS athletic director Trent McCormick for the 2021 summer moratorium period as June 29 – July 11, 2021.
Approved a recommendation from Ms. Karrfalt, Mr. Sowers, and Ms. Beck for 2021 summer school.
The summer schedule will be as follows:
CHS Credit Recovery – June 1 – June 25, 2021
CMS (Grades 6 – 8) – June 1 – July 9, 2021
CES IREAD – June 1 – 11, 2021
CES (K – 5) – July 19 – 30, 2021
Approved one out – of – district student transfer request.
Approved paying maintenance and custodial staff, scheduled for work, for two days of school closure due to winter weather on February 15 and 16, 2021.
Approved providing eligible employees with up to 10 additional days for use due to needs that qualify under the COVID – 19 Pandemic. Days that are not used will expire at the end of the 2020 – 2021 school year.
Approved an athletic field maintenance proposal from Marschand’s to provide service for the football, soccer, and soccer practice fields.
Was informed that a decision has not been made regarding the school corporation’s request for a flexibility waiver.
