Bus Unloading and Loading Changes for September / October 2020
To: Students, Parents, Staff, and School – Community Members From: Michael Howard, Director of Operations Re: Bus Unloading and Loading Changes for September/October 2020
Due to an upcoming building project involving the front entrance to the Covington Elementary School, the process for which we unload and load buses each day will need to be modified for the next few weeks for everyone’s safety. These changes will be in effect Monday, September 28th until the end of October 2020. During this period of time transportation of students will be as follows:
Unloading in the AM
All school buses will deliver the middle and high school students to their regular drop-off location. Students will continue to enter the building through the northeast entrance (Door 5) as they currently do. This is NOT a change to this process.
All school buses will then travel south down 6th Street to Pearl Street. They will then turn east on Pearl Street, proceeding to 7th Street. The buses will then turn north on 7th Street and unload the students at the gated walkway located at the southwest side of the building. This is commonly referred to the “Student Walker” entrance.
With this change in place, this will cause 7th Street to be closed to all other vehicle traffic from approximately 7:30 am to 8:15 am each day for the next few weeks.
All parents/guardians who have been using 7th Street to drop-off students will need to enter the car line that forms on 8th Street and Railroad Street for student drop-off as per the previously communicated and established Covington Elementary School procedures.
Loading in the PM
Bus #1, #2, #3, and #4 will line up on the 7th Street curb and Bus #5, #6, #7 and #8 will line up on Market Street with approximately a bus-length distance between each other. Additionally, this change will cause 7th Street to be closed to all other vehicle traffic from approximately 2:30 pm to 3:15 pm each day and proportionally earlier on Wednesdays for earlier dismissal.
All elementary school students will exit the building through Door #3 and proceed to their assigned bus.
All middle school and high school students that ride the bus will walk from their respective schools, traveling east on Market Street or to the elementary school where they will board their bus.
Buses will then travel west on Market Street to 6th Street. Then turn north on 6th Street to Railroad Street at which time they will travel to their normal afternoon routes.
All parents/guardians who have been using 7th Street to pick-up students will need to enter the car line for student pick-up as per the previously communicated and established Covington Elementary School procedures.
We appreciate your cooperation and assistance with these modifications to our regular unloading and loading of our buses. Again, this is being done to ensure the safety and well-being of our students and staff.
