In keeping with our commitment to provide the “Best of the Best” leadership for our educational facilities, I am excited to announce Ms. Alison Karrfalt as the new Principal of Covington High School and Ms. Michelle Beck as the new Principal of Covington Elementary School.  Please join me in congratulating these two outstanding individuals.

Ms. Karrfalt has served as Covington Elementary School Principal for 19 years.  Prior to joining the CT family Alison taught at the elementary and middle school levels in the Southeast Fountain School Corporation for six years.

Under her leadership CES has earned an ‘A’ grade under the Indiana School Accountability system for six consecutive years.  Further, during Ms. Karrfalt’s time at the helm of our elementary school, a number of programs, aimed at serving our children, were launched.  This includes full day kindergarten, preschool and Response – To – Intervention programming, all educational “Best Practices”.  Her focus on ensuring data driven decision making, has served our staff and students very well.

Ms. Karrfalt earned her Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education from Indiana State University, later earning her Master’s in Administration from ISU.

Alison and her husband John are the proud parents of three children, Madison (18), Alan (16), and Brian (13).  They reside in Covington.

In order to further clarify the leadership structure, at the high school, Mr. Trent McCormick is being assigned the new title of Dean of Students/Athletic Director.  In the role as Dean of Students, Mr. McCormick will assume responsibility for the attendance, tardy, and student behavior programs.

After receiving her Bachelor’s Degree from Indiana State University in 2000, Michelle Beck joined the instructional staff of Covington Elementary School, where she spent the first two years serving as a kindergarten teacher.  She completed a Masters in Education Administration Degree in 2007, from ISU.  For the past 16 years Ms. Beck has instructed third grade students at CES, while serving in a number of key roles on behalf of the school and corporation.

During her time with CCSC Ms. Beck has served as a member of the CES School Improvement Committee and a peer mentor, while being instrumental in the development of our K – 5 Curriculum Map for Reading Comprehension.  She has served as the data specialist for the alignment of grade level tier groups in Reading for the past eight years.  This past school year, Michelle participated in the Covington Community School Corporation Leadership Development Program and led the launch of the Smekens reading comprehension program for the elementary school.

Michelle and her husband Jason reside in Covington, with their two children, Rhyane (11) and Riley (8).

Ms. Karrfalt and Ms. Beck assumed their new roles on July 31.

I am confident the children of Covington will benefit from the commitment to excellence Ms. Karrfalt, Ms. Beck, and Mr. McCormick will bring to their new roles.  We are all blessed to have them leading the way and building success for our children.

Everyone Counts, Everyone Matters.
