To: Students, Parents, and School – Community Members Fr: Kevin Smith, Superintendent Su: Varsity Football Coach Named
Covington Community High School has a new football coach. Tyler Campbell was hired as English instructor and varsity football coach by the Covington Community School Corporation school board on Monday night. He replaces Travis Brown, who stepped down in order to focus more time on his role as an instructor, girl’s basketball coach, and middle school athletic director.
Coach Campbell is currently serving as an Offensive Quality Control Assistant for the Dallas Renegades, where he is responsible for the breakdown and analysis of opposing defenses, the creation of scouting reports, and assisting with on-field drills with the quarterbacks and wide receivers. Prior to joining the Renegades, coach Campbell was an offensive graduate assistant and video coordinator at Illinois Wesleyan University, in Bloomington, Illinois. While with IWU, he assisted with the creation of the weekly game plan by conducting an analysis of the opposing defenses. He also spent one year at Jackson State University, Jackson, Mississippi as an offensive analyst and video coordinator.
A graduate of Attica High School, coach Campbell participated in football, basketball, and track during his time there.
When asked why he chose education as a career, coach Campbell answered:
“I have always had a desire to positively impact young people and the best way to do this is through education. Coaching provides an extended opportunity to make a difference. Whether we are on the field or in the classroom I expect everyone to be accountable and respectful.”
“I am excited to get started,” he added. “My goal is for our teams to be fun to watch, through a system that is fun to play in.”
Coach Campbell is a graduate of Purdue University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Studies Education. He also has a minor in Political Science and History, with a certification to teach English.
Tyler and his wife Kenzie, a Purdue graduate (B.S. in Human Services), are newlyweds. They are looking forward to relocating to Covington and becoming a part of the Trojan family.
Please join me in welcoming Tyler and Kenzie to Covington.
