March 20, 2020
Dear CHS Coaches, Athletes, and Community Members,
The IHSAA released a couple of updates yesterday. One of their press releases identified May 1, 2020 as our new spring sports start date. We hold out hope that we will get at least a small portion of our 2020 spring sports season played, and we will move forward accordingly. Please find below a summary of yesterday’s press releases by the IHSAA.
Status of 2020 CHS Spring Sport Seasons
With respect to IHSAA By-Law 15 that Commissioner Cox referenced, we will be operating under the “During the School Year – Out of Season” policy for our current spring sports. This means that our athletes may practice with non-school teams and it will not compromise their eligibility if we do indeed return to play on May 1 with our school teams. If we are able to begin our spring seasons on May 1, each CHS student-athlete would be required to complete five practices prior to competition.

Status of 2019-20 Boys Basketball State Championships (copied from March 19 IHSAA press release)
IHSAA Boys’ Basketball State Tournament cancelled following today’s directive by Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb that all Indiana schools will be closed until May 1, the Indiana High School Athletic Association announces that this year’s IHSAA boys’ basketball state tournament is officially cancelled.
“It is with great sadness and disappointment that we inform Hoosiers of the cancellation of the remaining games of the 2020 IHSAA boys basketball tournament series,” said IHSAA Commissioner Bobby Cox. “While the Association maintained every hope of continuance, it is now evident those hopes are now unreachable. Albeit there will not be regional, semi-state and state champions crowned across our four classifications, the health and safety of our public remains paramount and our primary focus.”
Last Friday (March 13), the IHSAA announced the remaining games of the state tournament would be postponed beginning with the regional games due to the growing number of school closures.
