Re: New Principal Named at CHS
Mr. J. R. Haskins has been named Principal at Covington High School, for the 2019 – 2020 school year. Haskins, currently the interim principal for Covington High School, was appointed during the regular monthly board meeting on Monday, April 8, 2019.
Haskins joined CHS as assistant principal / athletic director at the beginning of the current school year. This came following an eight – year tenure as an instructor for the Tri-County School Corporation, located in Wolcott, Indiana.
“The board and I are excited to have a man of J. R.’s qualities leading our high school,” commented Covington Community School Corporation Superintendent Kevin Smith. “He has been a bright light, for our children, staff, and school – community since joining our CT family. Mr. Haskins is a man of integrity, who believes as educators we are here to serve the needs of each child. I could not be happier for our students, staff, and school – community to see him have this opportunity.”
During the April session, the board of school trustees, recognized Covington Middle School eighth grade student Lauren Vale for her accomplishments at the recent Lafayette Science and Engineering Fair. CMS instructor Marlissa Brewer introduced the awards Lauren received, which included
“The board and I are very, very proud of Lauren,” Smith said. “Not only does her focused efforts set an example of how positive results occur when rigorous learning opportunities are embraced, but they also reflect the benefits of true master teaching.”
The CCSC superintendent also advised the school corporation was one of 48 school districts selected by the Indiana Department of Education to receive a Digital Learning Grant. The value of the grant award is $27,761.
“Receiving the Digital Learning Grant will provide an opportunity to launch Project Lead The Way curriculum within our high school and middle school,” commented Smith. “This is an opportunity to continue to expand rigorous and relevant learning opportunities for our children in the areas of computer science and engineering. I could not be happier to have the IDOE assist our efforts on behalf of our outstanding students.”
