Su: COVID – 19 Impact Update
Earlier today, Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb directed all schools to close until May 1, 2020 in an effort to assist with the flattening of the curve of the COVID – 19 pandemic. The governor indicated this date could be extended subject to our success in containing the virus.
With the governor’s direction in mind, CCSC schools will extend our E -Learning instruction protocol through May 1, 2020. The instructional schedule for the period of April 14 – May 1 will be announced during the week of March 30, 2020.
The extension of the school closing period has created the need to adjust additional event schedules:
1. The 2020 CHS Prom, as well as all After – Prom activities, are indefinitely postponed.
2. The CES kindergarten round up and screening have been indefinitely postponed.
3. The Champions Together event scheduled for April 18 has been cancelled.
4. A reminder that all extra – curricular, including athletic, activities remain suspended until further notice.
A decision on graduation will be made at a later date.
Note: Dr. Jennifer McCormick, and Governor Holcomb have both expressed their commitment to ensure seniors around Indiana receive course credits, allowing them to earn their diploma. There will be more to come on this topic.
During his press conference the governor also announced that he has cancelled all state assessments for this school year. This cancellation includes IREAD – 3, ILEARN, ISTEP, I AM, WIDA, and ISPROUT testing.
I want to thank the governor, Dr. McCormick, Dr. Box, and their leadership team for considering our children and educators in a proactive and caring manner. During a crisis we all need leadership. We need decisions to be made. We need communication. Since the beginning of the COVID – 19 pandemic we have been fortunate to receive this leadership from our government, health officials, medical professionals, and the state’s educational leaders. I appreciate the leadership they have provided on behalf of our children, educators, parents, and the citizens of Indiana.
If so inclined, please continue to keep those on the front lines in thoughts and prayers. Each time I consider the sacrifices those in the health, medical, and service industries are making in an effort to protect each of us, my heart beats with tremendous pride. Thank you to all involved in this fight.
I want to wish everyone a wonderful spring break. Have fun with your loved ones and I expect you to fill each house with laughter.
We will get past this. Our best days lie ahead.
Thank you and stay safe.
