We will again be offering a class trip to Gettysburg and Washington D.C. in March 2019. This trip is open to all 7th and 8th grade students and parents (8th grade students will have first priority). The trip is school-sponsored and all school rules and regulations will apply. The trip will be chaperoned by teachers.

We will depart the Covington Middle School parking lot the evening of Thursday, March 14 around 7:00 pm. We will travel via motor coach and arrive in Gettysburg Friday morning around 7:00 am. After a tour of the Gettysburg Battlefield with a licensed battlefield guide, we will continue on to Washington D.C Friday afternoon. We will check into our hotel in Herndon, VA about 25 miles west of Washington D.C. on Friday evening. We will leave Washington D.C. and drive home on Monday, March 18, around 5:00 pm and arrive back at Covington Middle School on Tuesday morning around 7:30 am.

Accommodations for our group will be at the Crown Plaza near Dulles Airport, 2200 Centreville Rd,

Herndon, VA 20170. You may select your roommates. Our meals will be at large food courts, cafeterias, and buffet style restaurants. All meals (12) are included in the price of the trip.

We are still working out the final details, so the exact price is not yet determined. However, last year’s student price for this trip was $575. This included transportation, hotel accommodations for 3 nights (quad occupancy), all meals, sightseeing, admissions, and evening activities. The adult/parent cost last year was $725 due to higher adult prices for some admissions and dual occupancy at the hotel. Again, we are not sure about the exact 2019 cost yet, but we don’t expect much of an increase, if any, from 2018.

Highlights of our trip will include a tour of the Gettysburg battlefield, a night tour of the memorials, visits to Arlington National Cemetery and Mount Vernon in Virginia, a fun evening at Dave & Buster’s Arcade, several hours in the Smithsonian Museums, and much more.

We are confident that a visit to Gettysburg and Washington D.C. will provide a unique learning experience, as well as valuable insight into our nation’s history and government. If you have any questions, please feel free to call or text Mr. Corey Smaltz at 765-585-0395.

To make a registration, pick up a form in the Middle School office. A $200 deposit may be made anytime, but is required by October 15, 2018. This deposit will be kept with the Middle School’s extracurricular funds. The remaining balance will be due January 25, 2019. I recommend that you make your reservations as soon as possible. We have to have a minimum of 35 and maximum of 55 people in order for this trip to be a reality.
