The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree or higher in a sports management, related fields, or education.  Consideration will be given to relevant professional experience.  Candidates must possess, or demonstrate the following qualifications for the position:

  1. Possess a desire to work with students, staff, and the school – community
  2. Have previous coaching experience, with a proven record of success
  3. Possess and demonstrate the leadership skills necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of the position
  4. Have a knowledge of current trends in athletic administration
  5. Have knowledge and experience around IHSAA policies and by-laws
  6. Ability to collaborate and communicate across all stakeholder levels
  7. Ability to manage multiple priorities, while providing the necessary management and supervisory skills to effectively fulfill assigned duties


The Athletic Director shall be responsible for, including but not limited to, the following obligations:

  1. Oversee and supervise the athletic staff
  2. Make recommendations for the effective and efficient operations of the program to the Principal, when necessary
  3. Maintain a program of community relations to enhance the involvement in and support of athletic programs
  4. Assist the Principal in the development of athletic coaches
  5. Make recommendations for the maintenance of and improvements to athletic facilities
  6. Assist the Principal with the hiring and recommendation process of coach selection, assignment, and evaluation
  7. Schedules all interscholastic contests, including the hiring of game officials, event workers, and when necessary the scheduling of transportation
  8. Assists the Principal with athletic budget preparations, by program
  9. Assists the Principal with the financial management of the athletic program
  10. Supervises all athletic events and contests
  11. Models and enforces the Athletic Code of Conduct for all student athletes and coaches
  12. Maintains annual inventory of all equipment
  13. Oversees the athletic training program, ensuring accurate documentation and filing of all preventive care, as well as injury records for student athletes
  14. Ensures and oversees the requirements for student – athlete physical examinations are met, including concussion protocol
  15. Oversees student random drug testing program
  16. Oversees bus driver drug testing program for the corporation
  17. Ensure the necessary personnel is scheduled to provide adequate administration and supervision at all interscholastic athletic events
  18. Prepare and submit all required entries and reports to the IHSAA
  19. Ensure procedures, as well as the effective operations, of concessions for athletic events
  20. Ensure procedures and resources are in place to ensure effective set up, and clean – up following athletic events
  21. Schedules facility use throughout the school corporation
  22. Assume such responsibilities as deemed appropriate by the Principal and / or Superintendent
